We ask Moabiters from all walks of life what their neighbourhood means to them. Our very own Chris Larson harkens from Colorado in the US, and has been living in Moabit since 2018. We caught up with him to ask him a few questions to gather some juicy details about what makes the neighbourhood so special to him.
What made you choose to live in Moabit?
My girlfriend lived here, and once I moved here, I fell in love with the neighbourhood's quietness.
What's something that surprised you about Moabit?
The history you find here. I've discovered so much, like the incredible cellars beneath regular streets and buildings that are filled with historical stories, the striking churches dotted around the neighbourhood, being so close to where the Berlin Wall once stood, and so much more.
What's your favourite spot in Moabit, and why?
St. Johanniskirche. When you look down Kirchstrasse, the trees on either side of the street lead perfectly up to the church, and at a specific time of day the light hits the cross at the end of the leafy street in a striking way. Combined with the colour of the brick, the beauty of the church itself, and the green of the leaves, it's beautiful.
